I've just purchased two of these, but I'm not sure if you still need the large packing washers, (FAM 2767) under them. MiniSpares website is a bit vague, it states that you need them for the old bump stops, (FAM 2764) but don't mention the washers at all for the poly ones.

Anybody know the answer?

I'm sorry, a little off topic and not an answer to your question. I recently ordered one of these bump stops from a local supplier, thinking it was the rubber version, but I received the poly one. It does appear to be the same as that on offer from Mini Spares, I found it had no give it it what so ever, just a little more than a block of steel. If yours are like this one, I'd suggest re-visiting it.

If you want a 'magic' bump stop, fit the Special Tuning ones that are originally for a Hydro System. These mount to the arms so are fairly straight forward to fit, you just need to file out the holes in the brackets. Remove the stock one from the subframe completely. For road use, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Chris, would that P/N be C-AJJ4007 for the Special Tuning bump stop?
Suitable for dry suspension?

They do mention having to file out the holes.

They're the standard hydro bumpstops. C-AJJ4007 is the ST part.

'Special Tuning' - is that a company, or a range sold by another?

I replaced my poly bump stops for the OEM rubber one as the car felt like horrid on a bump.

Absolutely suitable for Dry Suspension :proud:

Seriously, you won't know you have any bump stops and it'll feel like you have 3 times the suspension travel that you do now. I say that 'you won't know you have bumps stops' as normally we have all experienced that hard thud when we bottom out on the stops, well,,,, not so with these, they really are magic. Getting a bot off the topic here but I'll never forget going up the Hamilton Station Track with my good mate Roger, who came out from the UK to partake in one of our trips. I was happy to let Rog do most of the driving. As does happen, a creek crossing caught him out and we hit it at about 5 times the pace we should have, we came out the other side without a hair out of place, I'll never forget the look on his face, nor his words " What the hell was that ??? " as we'd passed through with no bottoming out thump and totally in control. Roger's driven way more different types of vehicles and cars than most people and he'd never experienced anything like it or since.

Special Tuning was a Department of BMC and then Leyland. It was the outlet that sold / distributed the factory's special parts, many of which were developed and used by the factory's Competition Department. Not that it matters for road use, but many of the parts were also Homlogated for use in competition and in some parts of the world, using these parts on street registered cars gets a legal 'thumbs up' as they are factory parts.

My point was where can you get them - are they still being manufactured or are you talking about old stock?

MiniSpares sell them.  They won't be pukka ST parts, but to the same design.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood the question.

They are still being manufactured, I'm not sure by who or where, but unusually these days, it is one rubber product that's still first class quality -or at least have been, hopefully that will continue.

There's a link in the thread you quoted.

Is there a reason why Rover ou BL didn't use these rubber stops on the dry setup ???

If they are so much better then surely they would have used them, do they allow the arms / cones etc to rise up too far ??

I can only guess here that it was as a result of different committees that the frame vs arm mounted stops came about. From my own checks here, when either style of stop is fitted, the arms have the same amount of movement and in any case, both sets ups have been designed such that it won't cause further issues - with stock suspension arms - if the stops (Compression and rebound) are not fitted (eg, the rubber breaks off all together) other than an awful bang when at the extremes of travel.

I'm not sure if it helps but the ST type hydro bump stops are actually MGB rear axle jobs, I suppose at the time they just used something they already had in production

The rubbers are the same as MGB (and Midget/Sprite) but you will need the Mini mounting bracket.
