Hi
these pics were taken quickly in my lunch break on my phone
I know they aren't the best , but they give an indication whats involved in fitting a Imp tank
the tank is solidly mounted in the subframe with spacers at the front , lowering the tank's position to sit beneath the rear seat
the floor is removed where the battery & spare wheel sits , with about 1/4 of the rear section of the tyre well left
and is closed off from the underside and made into a tool tray
the back is heavily reinforced around the rear subframe mounts (3mm plate I had at the time & box / angle )
also the filler pipe has quite a lot of protection from a rear end crash
I used to make lorry's so went over the top with materials as I had them available
This conversion won't be for everyone's taste , but IMHO is safer than the normal position
the tank is no where near the road surface and is well clear of any speed bumps
a vent should be also fitted , both on the filler neck , and in the tank , it should go to a high point then vent to a low point -
to prevent any spillage in the event of a roll over
the above is only a demonstration of how I installed an Imp tank , in my classic mini convertible -
and is in no way guaranteed to work in a normal mini , and is not a quick plug & play fit
