Did you choose the file and then click attach? You should be able to see it on the preview before you post the reply

Yes, but was only trying to do it on my phone, so I could have goofed something up.

The cone locates on a steel ring at the top of the tower.Fit a bar of some kind into the cross member hole and gently bash it with a big hammer.Use some finesse and it will come free.Do not be disillusioned perseverance will prevail,Steve..

Do you mean the hole that the cone compressor goes through?

Success!!! Trying to attach a pic again to show old versus new. Threads inside the old cone are completely gone and rusty water actually poured out when the cone and trumpet fell on the garage floor! Must have gotten in there at some point and just sat in the aluminum trumpets and cone.

Since I need to order a new cone compressor, I’ll just focus on the ball joints, wheel bearings and CV joint on the other side and have everything ready to go.

If the threads in the cone were that badly corroded and have pulled, then the ones on the compressor are likely OK.

This forum seems to have a file size limit on images. A right pain as all my phone captured images need down sizing to upload here. Other forums im on auto downsample incoming images.

Sorry for going off topic here.

Yes, there is a limit, forgive me here as I can't recall what that is, but the reason for it and most forums is it increases the storage capacity needed on our host server by about 10 to 15 fold and so the costs ramp up in a big way.

There's a few photo hosting web sites around, Imjur is a popular one and is free. As I sit on a couple of forums, I prefer to use a hosting site as then it's easier to use photos on multipal sites instead of having to up load the same image many times.

<EDIT: I just looked up the max file size, 2Mb is the limit for each file here. >

We had this issue over on a classic motorcycle forum and after suggesting to have automated downsampling the site guru implemented within a day. Apparently there was a built in option for it that made it easy. He has since gone back to older images on the site and downsampled them all, freeing up loads of disk space, no meaningful loss of image quality for web viewing. A win win.

If you use an iPhone you can select the image size so it’s suitable for forums

I had the same issue with the knuckle joint being fused to the trumpet on the left side of the car as well, when I was in the garage last night. Had to get the hack saw back out just like I ended up doing on the right side. This got me thinking about when I install the new parts. Since it seems fairly common for this to happen, is it advisable to use anything like an anti-seize compound on the part of the knuckle joint that inserts into the trumpet? Could using anti-seize at least help it be less stuck, if that makes sense?

I think part of my problem is that my car has been so poorly neglected until now, that I am fighting that every step of the way. The car will finally be driven and maintained properly with me and I am also thinking about ways to make my work easier in the future if I ever have to do other suspension work.

I do clean the holes out with a 1/2" Drill Bit, usually by hand is enough, then on assembly, I just put a lick of chassis grease on the shank of the Knuckle Joint. Before fitting the new Cop in the Arm, I clean the hole in the Arm out with a wire wheel, then also grease the outside of the Cup when fitting. I've come back to some of these many years later (18 years in one case and the vehicle was outside all that time), and the Cup has lifted out with my fingers. On cleaning up the Arm, the bore for the Cup has still been clean and shiny.

I used to do the same thing, grease up the base and shanks of the knuckle,  grease the top of the trumpet, grease all threads, especially HiLo kits

Anything that could stick, give bother, and anything needing to come apart in later years, grease it
