First pup project, lots to learn and lots of questions to ask.
I have a good shell as a basis. Looks likes it’s had new floors and various other panels and repairs in its past. Going to get it sandblasted and etch primed in the coming weeks.

Roof is distorted from previous poor blasting. Can’t find replacement panel so either source a descent roof from another pickup or modify a new saloon roof to fit. Need to check dimensions to see if it’s identical.

Set about making a rotisserie today for panel work, blasting and to help lift and store on my mezzanine. Which I had made one of these years ago!

Being blast again, this time painted immediately.

Lower bulkhead is looking rough, lots of patches that will require a tidy.

Also bought a spare roof incase I needed it. Doubt I will now, distortion in roof is pretty minimal now its been blasted inside and out.

 

Been playing around with a shrinking disc in 9" grinder to good effect on some spare panels, seems to remove imperfections well although def requires some perfecting to use.

 

I also purchased a second V5 to go with the spare roof so potentially a start of a project for someone else or future project for me once I get all 10,000 of mine done.

Who did you use for panels for yours? M-Machine?

 

For a pickup am I right in saying Mk1-2 panels will be correct, for example M-Machine part - '11.36.00.00 Toe Board, Mk1-3'

​There isn't a specific one listed for pickup.

 

The pickup is a pre-76 shell with a 71 reg, it has twin bolt front subframe over the later tower bolts, however at some point the floors have been changed to suit the later rod change.

Originally it would of had the magic wand gear change? I would like to keep the rod change as its all I've experienced.

 

I don't see myself sticking an 850 in it with magic wand, probably a 1275.

Mk1-2 should right for a pick-up, but other versions can often be used if the correct ones are NLA

Later pick-up models would have had a rod change fitted as standard, so there's no issue there (in fact, I've got a heritage mk5 floor pan with the extension piece in mine as I wasn't particularly impressed with the alternative offerings)

Something to check on is the subframe mounting points on the bulkhead crossmember; the twin bolt crossmember should, I think, have anti-crush tubes welded around the bolt holes, the single bolt crossmember is reinforced differently
