Hi, I am looking at changing my stock dizzy for an electronic ignition and want to make sure I order the correct parts.

I have a 1990 998 City, and while the engine block was replaced going by the number it is still, according to Calvert's site, a "998 A+ block with centre locating tang in main cap, 1985 onwards"

Am I right in thinking this distributor will work? C-27H7701 - Mini distributor electric evolution performance to 276 cam profil (minispares.com) along with this coil

GCL143 - Mini coil for electronic ignition - '89 on (minispares.com)

I'm in the US and ordering parts to be shipped out so want to make double sure. That dizzy is out of stock at the moment but if I know that is the right one at least I will be sure if what I need.

Thanks for any help!

I assume a 59D based on the vehicle model/age, I haven't checked for sure as it looked easier/cheaper to replace the whole thing based on that price than use a kit.

This looks to be a TrueSpark equivalent available in the US which ay be a better/quicker option.  Distributor, A+, w/ Electronic Ignition Pickup (59D4E) | Seven Classic Mini Parts (7ent.com)

Whole dizzy is cheaper than an EI pickup plate to replace points plate? That seems out of whack!
My '88 has a US made Pertronix Ignitor II kit fitted to a 59D original distributor.

Maybe I am getting confused, it is definitely possible...

I was comparing this:

with this:

http://minispares.co...rts/LU143A.aspx

and then looking for alternatives on the 7ent site

If you have the original Lucas distributor body and baseplate, it would be better to keep it and install a Pertronix or H & H electronic ignition module.  At least you would be assured of the build quality.

That looks like the Ignitor 1, I have Ignitor 2 (Red in colour) which has several improvements including power modulation to prevent over heating if ignition is left on with engine shut down.
There is also Ignitor 3 which adds rev limiter and some othe bells and whistles.

Try emailing Minispares; they are very helpful.

I see you live in Minnesota. Do you drive the mini in winter?

That makes sense, thank you.

Ah I see, thanks. I looked at the Ignitor 1 as it specifically said 59D but it looks like the 2 will be appropriate too, thanks for the information!

No I haven't, in fact it has been in storage since I shipped it out here as it was just before COVID came along. Hopefully it will be on the road this summer, and then I will winter it in a garage every year.
