Restoring the wifes' '88 Mayfair, it has a factory sunroof fitted.   Factory Tilt Sunroof.jpg   45.58K   0 downloads

Now, a couple of things I'd like advice on.....

 

Firstly, it's the only piece of glass still in the car which is due a respray shortly - will I be opening a can-o-worms if I attempt to remove it for said respray? It seems to be bonded-in with some kind of sealer too.   Sunroof Seal and bonding1.jpg   41.04K   1 downloads

Secondly, whilst the headlining is in very good nick and I have avoided removing it during the resto because I know I'd never get it back in anywhere near as nicely the edge of it on the drivers side has come away slightly from the sunroof seal, is it possible to get it back in or again is it a case of taking the sunroof out and all the possible problems that may result? Are seals available if I bugger this one up?!!

The problem with sunroofs is that they weren't factory fitted. They were dealer fitted, usually with whatever they had spare in stock. Most seem to have got Defender sunroofs, but that doesn't isnt be one.
Mine has the Defender one and has a trim inside that covers the edge of the sunroof and headlining.
Bristol sunroof centre will be the best people to speak to for parts.

Slightly off topic but I have a Mini 30 with an electric tilt & slide sunroof that is definitely factory fit. It has a flanged roof aperture & a cassette frame spot welded into the roof. My other Mini is an Rsp cooper & as far as I know these glass tilt sunroofs were standard factory fit. Mind you it leaks as well as any dealer fit one
