I took my Mini Estate out for a quick spin earlier and my indicators have stopped working. I didn’t have much of a chance to work out what was wrong but checked the basics:

  • All the fuses are fine
  • Hazard warning lights still work so I guess the flasher unit is OK
  • All the other functions of the indicators stalk still work (flash, full beam).

Are there any other obvious things to check that I’ve missed before I start having a proper poke about?premental

indicators and hazard circuits usually have their own flasher units, so don't rule out indicator flasher fail just yet....

Inline fuse behind the carb (Pu/O) or the indicator flasher unit behind the speedo binnacle

All estates, if original, will have separate flashers. Indicator flashers are designed to fail so they at least light if they don't flash. The quickest check would be to disconnect the connector block for the stalk below the column cowl and probe/ bridge the relevent terminals.

Light Green/ Brown is the supply - Green/Red is left side indicators & Green/White is right

Connect  either to the supply (on the loom half of the connector obvs) & be sure to have the ignition on.  You can substitute the solid purple supply for the horn to confirmand/ or tap the indicator supply to purple/black (horn) to show if it's live.

I bet it'll be the flasher unit behind the speedo as that's the most difficult one to get at (I have a full length dash fitted).

Do I spend hours messing around taking the dash out to get them to work or should I just ignore it and go without indicators? I could just stick an Audi badge on the front and then I'd never need to use them anyway J
