I was at Minispares HQ a few weeks ago picking up some bits and had a chat about the alloy block, it was used as a test piece to make sure everything was OK, the actual blocks are cast iron, one of which is next to the alloy one on the stand, I had a quick poke around the iron one, it's very well produced and aimed at the high spending Appendix K crowd.

If "They"  ---  somebody, makes an aluminium block, it needs the bores spaced for 74mm pistons and plenty of metal on the face to take a longer stroke or for drilling and tapping to take the studs for a twin-cam head.

I saw the Ascaso A5+ block and crank at KAD. Beautifully engineered, but eye wateringly expensive, and that's before you add a KAD 16v head to it.

Mmmmm,   isn't that what we have always dreamed of ?   Have they sold any ?

 

I wonder how much those cranks cost ?   and where the BMW thrust bearings are fitted ?

KAD told me block, rods, crank & pistons were in the region of £20k. That was about 18 months ago.

I once saw about a dozen, Longbridge, small-bore, aluminium blocks, in a Wolverhampton scrap-yard.

 

To my utter grief, they had all been stood on end and the front and rear main bearing webs, smashed with a sledge hammer.
