Mpi project. Totally stripped, shell off to the bodyshop soon...lots of work to be done

So my question is. The roof has some squares of 'sound deadening' anti boom stuff on it that appears quite solid and diffucult to get off.
I dont want to leave this on if the bodywork is getting a total workover.
So is there an easy way to remove or is it just a case of chipping away.
AND is replacing it with dynamat an acceptable way forward to reduce the vibration noise
Thanks.

I used a product called silent coat on mine it’s similar to dynamat but a lot cheaper.

I also used silent coat on my mk2, bought it from ebay in small sheets. Seems to work well, it’s quietest it’s ever been

I've used a combination of silent coat and Dodo mat, directly from their website: https://www.deadening.co.uk/

I havnt driven the car yet, but even tapping the doors is quieter than my daily Audi now.

Thanks all. I will take a look at silent coat.

I have removed the 'stuff' off the roof this morning and found.... NO paint/ under coat nothing underneath just bare metal squares, who'd have an MPi...

i used a combination of both dynamat and silent coat; dynamat on the roof and door panels and silent coat on floors and bulkhead

main reason for this was that from the reviews i'd read, dynamat seemed to have a better reputation for not letting go once in-place.  Having put both on, it does seem to me that dynamat does have the edge on silentcoat; doors and roof are very 'dead' now when tapped

I tend to use generic bitumen type sheets but but just preference.

Regarding fitting, you don't need to cover every square inch with the stuff.

I replicate the size and position of the factory stuff inside the door skins and quarter panels and its just right.

Having just finished fitting our a mini shell with it, it's very obvious what a difference it makes to add it to the roof skin as with everywhere else done besides the roof, you can hear a definite thwang in the roof skin when you close the doors.

Thanks Ben.
I wasnt going to go mad with the application (not binkey mad) but just replacing what comes off when the bodywork get sorted.
Thanks for all the advice.
