Hi Folks,

Trying to replace a seized clutch slave cylinder, so far I have only managed to remove one top bolt that is towards the front of the car. I cannot get a socket onto the rear bolt, just no space. I think getting the hydraulic hose off looks seriously difficult, maybe not even possible in that space.

Is there a particular method? like remove the whole mounting plate? Does not leave much room to get a spanner on the hose fitting way down there.

Any advice appreciated.

Regards

My car is 1989. Not sure if there's a set way to do this but hers my method;
I did this recently by
1. removing the screen wash bottle and 2. the brake master (not the servo.)
Then I found an old 9/16 cranked ring spanner and cut it down to 2/3 of its length with an angle grinder. This fitted into the space nicely without having to remove the plastic air duct.
I cut the Flexi hose off as I was renewing it anyway.
It's pain having to bleed the brakes after reassembly. When you reassemble, remember to connect the new Flexi hose before bolting down the slave cyl.

Good luck.

Remove the whole mounting plate, it'll likely need a de-rust and painting anyway.

Thanks folks,

I had to remove the whole bracket in the end, a very slow job.

One of the most awkward jobs i've ever done.

But it did bleed very easily and I have a working clutch so all is good

Cheers
