Hey!
Ive just stripped the entire underbody for previous rusttreathment and paint, and found alot of rust around my drainholes..
So my conclusion was, that they are rust traps..
My Mini is purely going to be a summer car, and wont see salt or winters in my lifetime..
Why not just weld them up? Or will they still be usefull?
Best regards Jes!

You can never second guess when the heavens will open up, never never!!!!
Just pop out the metal plugs (mine just pushed out lol.) and replace them with rubber grommets, the do the trick much better as they are a tight fit. if you really want to seal it off then slip some instant gsket round the hole and then put the grommet on.
if you seal it up completely with weld, it's really a problem, but rubber grommets are weasier to remove should you need to, and also, if you ever have to sell the car, if you'd welded it, it will de-value the car since it is effectively a dry use only car.
i would've thought sealing the plugs up will just make it rust elsewhere.
that's my thoughts anyway
