Hi everybody, I'm Sam, the lad behind sh3dart

Attached File  prog_img_113.jpg   26.32K   6 downloads

You might have seen my work on the Facebook groups or Instagram

So I have a "thing" for old Minis and I've wanted to work on something like this since I got into 3D Modelling / Rendering

I've been working on this project for a seriously long time and it probably won't reach the finish line for a while either, but it's a real labour of love and I'm in it for the long haul

The model is either based on laser scan or photogrammetry data, so once finished the model it's going to be pretty dimensionally accurate

A couple W.I.P Shots

Attached File  prog_img_116.jpg   18.15K   6 downloads Attached File  prog_img_122.2.jpg   22.83K   4 downloads Attached File  prog_img_112.jpg   22.99K   2 downloads Attached File  prog_img_100.jpg   18.38K   2 downloads

Here are my plans for the model for when it's finished

I want to create prints / posters and I've got tonnes of ideas, here's a few with photos as reference

A Mini sat in a studio shoot

Attached File  20210328_101834000_iOS.jpg   29.24K   3 downloads

A Miglia Mini being ragged around Brands Hatch

Attached File  20200213_130043712_iOS.jpg   55.61K   2 downloads

A Mini in it's "natural habitat" a.k.a the Pertol Station

An abandoned shell rotting away in a field or barn

Attached File  20210202_112635000_iOS.jpg   58.19K   0 downloads

I want to create custom commissions to help out with everybody's build

It would ideally include tonnes of custom aspects, such as colour scheme / wheels / registration plates / mirrors / arches / headlights, this would obviously take a while until my parts library builds up

Feel free to check updates and progress on my social accounts @sh3dart but I'll also try to keep this thread updated!

That will be the ultimate Mini configurator! You could sell 3D files of our cars in a printable file so we could print miniature toy versions. I know I would pay!

A 3D configurator would be awesome, although it would something to think consider in the distant future after I've built a decent sized parts library

As far my files being printable, currently that's not possible because of the type of 3D modelling I do but again it's something I could consider in the future

Some nice work there. Just curious what tools you are using for your final rendering? I'm just doing Solidworks and AutoCad work. I assume this is something else like Maya or something?

By the way, I'm sorry but the first time I saw your screen name, the only thing I saw was 3D Shart. Sorry, I can't un-see it now.

Thank you mate, yeah am I using Maya and it's built in renderer Arnold

Don't worry about it, you're not the first person it's just unfortunate that my initials are "SH"

Well done, Samie. Where are the .stl-files or even better .stp? I am in desperate need of a decent body.stl for CFD studies. All the Mini bodies on Grabcad unfortunately cannot be transferred into flawless solids. Spend hours on them in vain.

I love the accuracy of the imperfections in body gaps; makes it a lot more convincing :-)

Where did you get the boot hinges from? They look very similar to the ones I designed in FreeCAD and put on Grabcad.

Thank you mate!

I've not put them online anywhere yet but I might considering selling them in the future

I modelled the hinges based on the scan data I'm working from, I've seen your work on Grabcad (it's fantastic by the way, especially the mechanical parts)

I hope you don't mind but I actually downloaded your boot hinges, they were a great help to filling in the scan data gaps   :D

Thank YOU, Samie. Nice to know that the things on Grabcad are of use to someone. Now, the hinges seem to be rather popular with more than 150 downloads.

Look forward to your future posts.
