Got a new rad to put on next weekend, and while i'm at it i'll flush it through aswell. Any advice or things to be careful of whilst doing this?
Also I'm going to put a new thermostat in as its running rather cold at the minute. What temp should i get for a 1991 998?

Cheers

Standard Thermo kit form halford will do the job. flush through once and then I filled with plain water, ran the car for 5 mins, then get rid of that and put water and coolant in.

You want a 88oC on for a 998, be careful if you get one from Halfords and check the one in the box first, as the last time I was looking the part no they recommended to be an 88oC one turned out to be an 82oC one. Ended up getting a proper one from minispares for half the price.

And a 50% antifreeze to 50% water mix in the cooling system all year round.
You will also need about 3 ½ to 4 litres (depends upon how much you spill) of coolant to fill the system completely.

I think my mini runs a bit cold, the needle rarely goes over 1/4 up the gauge. Should I get a new stat? Which one woudl it have as standard and which should I get?

Will I need 4 litres of coolant + 4 litres of water? Or is that value to fill the entire system?

No that'd be 8 litres, up to four litres of water and coolant mixed 50/50
