After many months/ years of searching and a few ‘nearly s’ I have found this
4 owners
998 hle
26,000 miles
Opaline green ( slightly darker shade of opaline green on wings 🤣)
As original as it gets - including the 30 year old metric tyres that ... well let’s say thank god the seats are brown
Pics from ad ( fb marketplace) .... there is a story behind that for another time .... let’s skip to pics for now ( ps thank you to friend and neighbour for Finding this )
Back at home
Plans ? ..... oh very much so, just working through essentials at moment to get it safe and drive-able.
So let’s kick off the journey .....

I love the mark1 especially the interior. I think that the dash could have been easily adapted for the mini had Austin Rover so wished.
I preferred the flush headlamps I could only afford the versions with recessed headlamps at the time.

My dad had an opaline green Sd1, always liked the colour.

Loads to do ( if anyone has a set of pepperpots
drop me a line )
For those with metros ... is the n/s wing mirror the same size and fitment the same as a mk2 / 5 door ?
Looking to fit an extra wing mirror ( the car will be used and need that extra ‘help’)
Cheers

Will the rear shocks off a mini fit/ be suitable for fronts of metro?

I think the mirrors are the same for 3 and 5 door. Oddly yours looks to have the later mirrors which I didn't think came in until '86
(I have a NOS GAM229A driver's side mirror, which is listed as '83 onwards. Its fixing is similar to a Mini in that it screws to the door skin).

Absolutely love that. I'm a big fan of the Metro, always was. They were good fun then, but now compared to a boring modern car I'd imagine they're really terrific fun. That one has the slightly bigger wheels, doesn't it? The very early ones looked like they were on casters.
My memories are of my Aunt's MG Metro's - she had 3 in a row. An early pale blue metallic one, then one from about 86/87 that was all-white, then another in 89 that was silvery-gold with the big MG logo in feint silver along the bottom - that was my favourite I think. The main thing I remember is the smell! They all leaked (up here in the West of Scotland) and they all smelt of stale, damp carpeting - there was usually a puddle in the spare wheel well. Then my great-aunt had a Metro Automatic - almost identical to yours, but without the rear spoiler. Then my Mum had a later 94 1.4Si which really was night & day, felt so modern... thats the Metro that nearly tempted me away from Minis, but didn't manage it!
