Hi Everyone,

I have a 1995 Spi.

All working okay when I last drove it 5-6 weeks ago.

Now the clutch pedal is stuck down (engaged) - I assume this correct as I can select all the gears.

I've had the car up to temperature about 20 - 25 mins but no difference. My local specialist suggests it is probably the clutch plunger stuck and that I should lubricate it and get it to temp to see if it will free up.

From the other threads I have read that seems the most likely cause.

Now being pretty new to all this that sounds okay but I am struggling to locate the slave cylinder. According to Haynes I need to remove the ECU in order to get to it. Is that correct?

Before I go to this bother is it worth getting the car up to temp and then starting in gear?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

So yes, sorry I meant disengaged.

The specialist hasn't looked at the current problem no, we've just spoken on the phone.

So be gentle with me, where do I locate the arm?

Oil the arm near the wok , then push the arm back into the slave cylinder

Thank you, in my original post:

I'd actually suggest the Pedal Pivot Shaft is rusty and so gripping the Pedal Bush.

Usually if it's somewhere past here, the Pedal will still return. The Hydraulics only work under positive pressure. On a Negative Pressure, the seals retract allowing the fluid to pass.

Have you tried pulling the pedal up?

The answer to your original post is yes, you do need to remove the ECU. It's fitted to a bracket and should be held on bu 2 bolts. To take it out of the car you will need to disconnect the plug amd probably the vacuum pipe. It will then be easy to see the slave cylinder and if the piston is stuck out.

So the ECU is out and I can see the slave cylinder.

If the piston is stuck out how much of it am I expecting to see? There appears to be about an inch and half between the bottom of the cylinder and the joint with the arm

It certainly won't push back into the cylinder and the pedal doesn't pull up by itself.

I have lubricated it all and will have to return to it tomorrow.

Suggestions please.

Thanks

Andrew

Grab the pedal and see if you can pull it up.

If you can, check that drive is engaged. That would indicate the pedal pivot is sticky. Lube it and work the pedal up and down till it returns on its own.

Sorry - bad description, I cannot pull the pedal up by hand, but tomorrow I will take a look at the pivot and check it anyway.

So I lubricated the end of the clutch arm where it enters the wok with a bit of engine oil.

Got the engine up to temp, still no joy.

Removed the horn to gain access and tried to pull the lever up, still no joy.

Levered it from underneath the arm and it popped up pretty much straight away, clutch pedal now okay and everything working.

Thanks for your help and suggestions

Andrew
