When I assembled my cross pin diff I noticed that the hardy spicer output shaft (on the drive gear side) has 0.4mm axial play. Despite the new trust washers. This seems too much for my taste.
I couldn't find information on max. allowable play in the manual.

Any suggestions on what this should be? Or is this nowmal?

As long as there are Thrust Washers in there, It doesn't matter. In use, the shafts ONLY thrust out, they can't do anything else. That's why there's no spec for it.

Thx. I was just worried how the diff  gears would cope with the gear on the output shaft wandering about that much.

The Output shafts 'float' between the Thrusts and the Block that's over the Centre Pin. For a long while there, in Metros, they didn't fit those Centre Blocks, but when the Planet Gear Thrusts wear, it can make it difficult to refit the Pot Joint. These had about 3 - 5 mm end float.
