Hi All, hoping to get my first car this year, and would love a classic mini. Sadly we don't have a garage with only onstreet parking. Would I be able to keep a mini in this case? I know they rust quite easily but if I put a good coating of rust repellent (think it's called that!) On the bottom, under the sills etc and get a car cover, would it be okay?

Cheers

Yes it would be OK, get an old duvet t go over the roof and bonnet to prevent the cover scratching the paint. I'd also recommend Every Car Covered as a manufacturer of covers, I have one on my Estate and they fit great

Ah, smashing. Thanks!
I'll take a look at that brand and will definitely get one when I can drive and get my wee mini.

Stormforce covers are also great, I've used one on my daily driven '91 for over a year now and it's been fantastic in all conditions. If you're planning to use the car regularly, just make sure to keep on top of cleaning the bodywork as that'll be a big help to prevent rust, in addition to other preventative measures you've already mentioned.

Whilst you're planning your cover make sure you allow a budget for security.  Minis easily go missing so at the very least invest in a heavy duty disklok or similar, a proper job not a cheap weedy thing. It'll be the best money you spend on your little car.

Get an Automatrics M Track tracker fitted, you'll be guaranteed your car back 😁

Take a look at their YouTube channel

Check you can get it insured. The classic car club I belong to have had problems with our younger drivers and using it as a daily .. most expect you to have a "modern" and the classic is used occasionally ..

I've also got a Mini as my first car, which is stored outside; people have said most things already but its doable. Definitely make sure you invest in proper security as a street parked Mini could gather some attention from 'professional' thieves. I also only tend to use the car cover on mine as protection against rain and leave it off for the dry days to keep the car nicely aired and not built up with condensation but does mean it needs washing a little more often. Mine is insured on Admiral, of course its not a tailor made classic car insurance which some won't be too pleased with but its a good price with everything a first year driver would need. ps. get a dashcam.

Gazza, yeah will deffo see about that soon. Would most likely use a "modern" car at first for lessons and until I'm confident I'm not going to crash, LOL.

FDW, ahh okay, that makes sense. I'll shop around for Insurance and hopefully it won't break the bank! I'll make sure that security is top priority when I get it, someone else in my street used to own a Morris minor and it was fine but maybe minis are bigger targets.

Cheers all for the replies, much appreciated
