Have been looking at painting the very stained grey headliner in my 72 mini a cream colour...I have read online that vinyl silk household emulsion does the trick.. anyone else attempted this? And with what results

Works great. I used on a Triumph Herald that had a nasty stained headliner and it brought it up a treat. I used a paint pad and it gave a nice even coat.

You used to be able to buy car upholstery paint in Halfords years ago.....I remember painting a red vinyl Mk1 Mini interior black in the 1970's, including the headlining!

This might work:-

"Vinylkote Formula 40 is a cross between a vinyl paint and a dye. It is the ideal product for refurbishing or changing the colour of vinyl and leather upholstery both in vehicles and on furniture.

Widely used for restoring older and classic car interiors to their former glory, Vinylkote avoids the need for re-upholstery, this allows the retention of original materials, saves time and, of course, expense."

Thanks Mab01. Interesting reading..one I will think on. Spraying the headliner in situ might be a pain. But certainly not ruled out

I can't remember, it was about 25 years ago. All I can recall is that it was white vinyl silk emulsion - probably a cheap one

About 5 years ago I sprayed by grey headliner black using a can of vinyl spray paint that I found on the shelf in Halfords. Came out really nice, and I did it in the car too!

I don't have a recent picture but I sprayed my headliner with standard satin black and the only place it has come off is where the roll cage rubs it, everywhere else has held up for 15 years

Vinyl satin emulsion works well and can be brushed on.

Cooperkid (my Gandson) just did his 1986 Mayfair in black and it looks super.
