hi guys. any experience with 2 numbers on the VIN plate ?
1 is the normal xl2si, the other above it is xndab, this looks like its stamped on the shell too. any advice would be great thanks or pics of the number inside the scuttle. thanks
It depends on where you are. If the car is an import then yes it can have additional info.
So maybe some info on the car. Where it is where it cam from and age model etc will help get the correct info.
There. Ca n be other factory numbers on the car that have nothing to do with the cars ID and we’re only for use in the factory.
If you have pictures of your numbers or the locations of where they are and in what format then that info is also good.
But I will say this. If the car has two Vin/chassis numbers in factory form there is a good chance it is not what it is.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The car is in Portugal and was constructed here the S on the endd of the VIN denotes construction in Setubal. I have the regular BL cars ltd plate near the radiator that has the 2 numbers on it. The normal VIN in the Vin place then above the number starting with XNDAB. I cant find any reference to this XNDAB anywhere. In the scuttle there is the XNDAB number stamped in the middle of the car like old style large numbers then on the left a much more recent stamp with the XL2S1 number. After 40 years the MOT place hear is asking why the 2 numbers and will not pass its MOT.
I hope that makes sense
thanks

Interesting. An S on the end normally show the car was built in Belgium at the Senef plant.
the scuttle stamping did not happen till mid 80s on UK built cars.
what age is the car?

the log book says 1982, but portuguese log books can be wrong. It looks like a mk3 or mk4

i have joined a forum here in Portugal and 3 more people have had the same problem. i am trying to find out a resolution to the mot problem. Looks like cars made in Setubal portugal between 1981 and 1982 were stamped twice. will update when i have more info

It is common on IMPORTED CARS.
for example British built Minis had a second VIN/Chasis number stamped on their bulkheads when they were imported. But Aus. built ones do not.
again seeing photos of the actual number stamping/plates might give a few clues to what came from where.

Interesting. An S on the end normally show the car was built in Belgium at the Senef plant.
Belgium built cars typically have a 'B' suffix to the chassis number.

Chris Rees 'The Complete Catalogue Of The Mini'
KA2S4-491251 to KA2S4-1064876 1964-1967 Morris Mini-Cooper 998cc
Once you've checked out that IT IS the original shell for that Vin Plate (there are lots of Minis out there with fake identities!) then buy a Heritage Certificate.
https://www.britishm...ge-certificates
Hopefully it will also tell you the original colour & engine number (BMC/BMH were good at keeping records).
