997 cam i don't think it's that rare, still available new from minisport, £38.95, it's called a 948.
Just make sure the rest of the enigne is in good nick, replace anything worn, replace oil pump because you might as well and it's only £15.
you might want to set f new cam followers they're only £15 too.
12G940 will need the block pocketing, or have the exhaust valves sunk into the head by around 40 thou maybe more.

jus a quick thought, i found some delorto twin 40's on an alfa down the scrapy the other day, think it would be better to fit one of them to my car with the head and cam mods than if i were to waste time lookin for a downdraght manifold? then i can always sell the second delorto, or sell as a pair and have enought to buy a webber DCOE?

lol, I dont think a highly modified 998 will make much use of a single 40
Unless its ultimate race spec!!
and youd get better MPG from a Hif.
I really think its easier to stick with a well setup SU as most will say as well,
I know people like the fact its a bit different, and that changes the sound slightly but its alot of fuel wasted and cost alot to do, just invest in your engine and use a normal SU.
When i had my Downdraught on it was on for a week or 2 until i went for a rolling road,
they didnt have the correct bits, it would have take ages to setup and it was throwing fuel into the engine, so they said stick the standard carb back on was the best way to get most power with best fuel economy.

what is block pocketing?
mike
it's were you make a pocket for a valve in the block when using the head off a larger engined car. You either pocket the block of recess the valve into the head.
Just so you can use a head from a bigger car, that way you get bigger valves and more flow.
