Hi there, I now own a 1991 classic mini Cooper. One of the last with a hiff 44 carb from the dealership.

With all the restoring almost done, I was ready to finale start the engine. Problem was that the engine doesn't have vacuum do the carb does not suck in fuel.

I have connected all the hoses but there is some kind of pump connected to the vacuum Line from the Brake Servo and inlet manifold. It is connected via a T-hose to this "pump" which is connected on the Brake Servo. With the same screw that connects the bracket of the windscreenmotor.

Does anyone know what this pump or whatever it is is called or know the usage of this thing?

please post a picture of the part you want to know about as there is no Vacuum pump on the Mini.

 

but there are many valves and other parts. a picture can pass on lots of info.

Could it be an anti run on valve?

as above sounds like a stuck anti run on valve - or not wired to ign +ve

you can remove the valve & block the pipe to see if the engine will run

As above,

 

It's a solenoid that's connected to the ignition (white wires) so it closes when the ignitions on. With the ignition off it allows air in so the engine stalls  rather than diesels.

I think Moss stock them. 

 

I would check the power feed first; the valve closes when electricity flows through the white wire. If you have a dodgy feed here, it will not shut.

The valves seem pretty hardy, so I would triple check my feed before buying a replacement.

As a stop gap, try putting a rubber glove over the inlet side of the valve; to seal it hopefully you can get your engine to turn over.
