Hey guys, I have a problem that I hope someone on here can help me with. My Mini is a 1990 998cc carb manual. I bought a new dizzy for it a 59D E, removed the old one. This is where the problem starts. I did mark every thing so I could install the new one just the way the old one came out. Then all of a sudden my wife who is a first responder had to go on a call real fast so I pushed my car about 10 feet. Now my distributor drive is in who knows what position. I have installed the new dizzy @ TDC. #1 piston @ the top and timing marks lined up, rotor pointing @ about #1 spark plug hole. What am I not doing right. Leave it to me to mess up a perfectly good running car. Would really like to get this little guy feeling like his old self. Hope someone can help me.     Thanks.......................Gary      I did move the distributor drive with a 5/16 bolt 1,2, turns to the right. Car turns over but won't even try to start :(

Since you removed the distributor drive, assume that have to reset to the correct ignition timing static setting . What are the specs for timing? It could be that your particular engine should be statically timed at something other than TDC. If so, set your engine to that position (my manual says 8 or 10 degrees BTDC for your car) using the timing scale on the pointer/crank damper, double checking against the timing marks on the flywheel viewed through the inspection hole in the flywheel cover. Then set the distributor drive gearshaft to position the rotor to one o’clock, remembering that the shaft is 'Indexed' to accept the drive dog of the distributor. It should start assuming all of the other ignition components are OK. Good luck and keep us posted.

As above really, set the engine to TDC and re position the Dist drive, making damn sure you dont drop it into the depths of the engine..Then install the dizzy and set the timing to about 8 deg before TDC and it should at least fire up, then set it accurately with a timing light

Was the car in gear then? If not, the engine will not have turned so it should be in the right/same place.

I did move the distributor drive with a 5/16 bolt 1,2, turns to the right. Car turns over but won't even try to start :(

You probably need to start again then. When you make sure the engine is on TDC also make sure the correct valves are rocking .. TDC on #1 happens twice in the firing sequence ... and also make sure the drive is the right way up as it has one lobe larger than the other and needs to be in the right position (which at the moment eludes me and I don't have a manual to hand).

Does sound like the drive is simply out of alignment as you moved it.
