Could you have fitted the bulbs the wrong way round? I have found before that this is possible even with the offset pins. This could explain your symptoms.
I'm going to have a look tomorrow, most likely looks like a bad earth or bad connection so I'll give it a shot hopefully without my fingers freezing off in the process...

Update, I ordered some stop/tail lights from Classiccarleds and just fitted them. Hasn't quite gone to plan as the brake lights don't come on, they only flicker if the sidelights are on also. Anyone got some help for this?
If they're installed correctly then it sounds like an earth issue. But more info is needed on the symptoms.

I think it may well be that, after removing one bulb then putting it back in the brake lights now only come on if the tail lights are on too. So I'll give the contacts in the sockets a good clean then check they're earthed properly after that tomorrow or Monday...
