@Victor The rear seat belt bracket you have attached is not going to work.
The captured nut that you have attached directly onto the C post is not attached that way.

The full bracket looks like this
wZXSk6M.jpg

It attaches to C Post on Rear and Side window surround, then along parcel shelf

GJbRLmH.jpg

The shape of the pressing will distribute the forces through the shell.

I expect that in the event of an accident that your mount will rip through the C Post Skin.

It may be worth investing in the retractable seat belts from minispares, that bolt through the parcel shelf

https://www.minispar...s/MSSB1109.aspx

Also, the inner wing needs to be seam welded as others have said, at the minute it's supporting the A-post by beefing it up, but its not tied back to the inner wing. You shouldn't have any issues welding this with blowing through, as you're going onto another surface rather than a butt weld, I'd say several stitches along the length would be enough.

Good to see you making progress even though it seems like a backwards step with my suggestion...😬

Why do you need rear seat belts ? It was mandatory for a 76 car ?

One more vote for the C-post bracket. Your "bracket" (sorry) will corrode through the C-pillar...

Oh dear... Thanks guys for all the comments.

Well, no need for rear seat belts on my 76 Mini.  However, I wanted to upgrade it in terms of safety. Similar to upgrading the front brakes to discs...

Where did you get those brackets from @Verderad???

In relation to the inner wings, I wasn't going to seam weld that joint, but looking at all the comments, I think now I should...

Onwards and backwards...

Cheers.

Victor.

i got my c post brackets from Somerford mini but be aware there are 2 different shapes (earlier cars had a different size rear window?) so ring them and tell them the age of your car and double check part number they were very helpful to me

I'm no expert (standard disclaimer lol) but I think I'd agree with whoever said do a few stitch welds down that long join and that'll be plenty. Maybe 8 or 10 about an inch long each ? Or less

And you have a spot welder, as far as I know

It would be an easy and clean job with that   :shifty:

Well, I used the spot welder to fix the new part to the inner wing. However, for that seam welding that everyone is talking about I would need to use my MIG.

I will give it a go next weekend, so fingers crossed.

Fresh metal received today. Again very dissapointed with Magnum panels, as my doors are quite rotten at the bottom and these repair panels are not covering the whole area I need :(

z1dD2bj.jpg

I will assess it properly over the weekend, but on a quick review I don't think these are going to work. I might need to get a set of doors from somewhere else... (expensive!)

The scuttle panel should be an easy one to fit, unless there's something I would need to consider and I'm missing?

Thanks.

Did some work in the garage today, but not much progress to report.

As expected the repair panels from Magnum are not good, and will not cover the whole area I need to repair on my doors. The curved area on the corners of the doors are very rusted, but the repair panel will not cover that.

Then, I moved on into the scuttle panel. First I tried to align it using the windscreen surround as reference. See photos below marked-up in red, where there's a small gap between the scuttle and the inner wing, is that correct?

bpxGjmJ.jpg

CSlxoJ8.jpg

The panel is perfectly aligned with the A-pillars and the internal windscreen surround.

I also tried to get the bonnet into place, but the jig is in the way, so can't use that...

What people use to align the scuttle and make sure is in the right position?  Thanks

While I wait for some advice, I decided to clean up the area that will be partially covered by the scuttle. Wire brush and K-Rust.

Same on the other side.

Finally, in preparation for the scuttle, I removed the paint from the edge of the windscreen surround and applied zinc primer.

Hopefully next week I can get the scuttle fixed in position.  For the doors, I might need to get a replacement pair from a donnor car...

Cheers.

Victor.

I would offer it up again and make sure it's aligned with the dash rail panel, then mark your cuts on the A pillar. Then once its sitting right on the A pillars, you can then pull it down to touch the inner wings, which will give you the correct curve to match the bonnet. I spot welded it where it touches the inner wing once I was happy with the rest of the fit. This will probably mean taking it off the rotisserie...

Cheers Colin, that is very helpful.  Now I would need to go around the neighborhood looking for some wood pallets to put the car in, when removing the jig.

Victor.

I've used it extensively as well, seems totally fine to me so far (and when used in the past, not sure if recent changes have occured?)

also https://www.hagerty....d of our month.

I've got a few tins of the top product on that review more for convenience of covering larger areas than anything else

obviously where possible (and in worse conditions)  the best option is always to cut out and replace with new metal but just for some surface rust i'm fine with it
