Here's another picture of how mine was when I removed quarter panel...

Thanks Retro, Ben and Colin. Now it is quite clear how that should go in! Something for next week! :)

Ben, it is so good to hear from you mate. I haven't seen a post from Mill Road Garage in a while. Hope everything is okay.

Cheers.

Victor.

Hi Victor

Cheers, everything is fine thanks.

I haven't posted for a while as I have been working on a private minishell restoration so haven't been able to post a rebuild thread on the subject.

The next one is waiting though and belongs to another TMF member who would like the progress documented here so I will be back again lol

I've been following your progress though and you are doing well

Cheers

Ben

mine was all cut out as well due to rust so I fabricated an in-fill piece that made it all one piece instead

it is interesting to see how it was originally though

..You may need to bend the other end down slightly so that it fits under the step..

ahhh that so that's why the other end looks all bent out of shape, I did wonder.  I know it would never be seen but still seems like a half-arsed bit of design

Nice of you to save this poor mini.

Not many people would take on this challenge.

Following with great interest before I tackle my rusty project.

You are doing well! Keep it going.

Phil

Thanks Phil. I think I wasn't fully aware of what I was getting myself into when I bought this Mini. If I had to do it again today, I would probably walk away, or at least try to get it cheaper!

Good luck with your project, rust will become your friend eventually... ;)

Victor.

I received my new belt sander this week. Well done by Black&Decker, as they managed to process my claim and send me a new sander in a week. I also bought some belts for the sander, all set now!

Some work done today. First of all I tried to align that closing panel. I had to use the screw driver to lift it in position.

Once I was happy with the setting out, I prepared the panel with zinc primer and put it back in position for welding.

Clamped in place

Spot welded and plug welded on the top right

Then I put in use the new belt sander, to refine the grinding along the tunnel on the new floor panel. Using the 120 grit and with lots of patience, I managed to get a flat result.

And that is all done. I need to do the same on the other side, and that should be job done!

More tomorrow!

Cheers.

Victor.

If / when that belt sander fails again (the wheel at the end jammed up on mine, apparently a common issue) there is a very comprehensive set of spares available online, I got 2 replacements at the same time to make the most of the delivery charge, so I'm all set if it happens again

https://www.partshop...re-parts-s7146/

obviously though if the motor dies you might as well just buy a whole new one and keep the other as spare parts (unless waruntee is possible)

just curious what went wrong with yours?

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the tip.

When using it, suddenly it was a bit loose, and when using it was vibrating quite significantly. At some point it started to smell like burnt and some white smoke came out of it. I stopped working inmediatelly and got in contact with Amazon customer services. They put me in contact with B&D and sent me a form to claim the waranty. It had 2 years waranty and it was under one year old, so no brainer. They sent me a new one straightaway.

Victor.

Not much done today, as I'm getting ready for the game tonight Spain - Germany. Tough game for 'la roja' let's see how that goes...

Just completed the final grinding along the new floor and protecting the area with primer.

Also inside the companion bin. I will seal this properly later on, but for now is done.

And from underneath also looking really good.

Next time I will start with the other half floor, which I'm hoping to complete before Christmas. I'm taking some annual leave for Christmas, so hopefully I can get started with the quarter panels. Once the quarter panels are in, the project will start looking like a car again!

Cheers.

Victor.
