Today I continued preparing the floor panels, the tunnel and the cross member.
For the the floor panels I masked the edges where the spot welds will go and primed and painted the areas that will not have access once the panels are in.
Primed
Antirust paint
And after removing the masking, I applied zinc primer to the edges.
Same process with the cross member.
And zinc primer.
Then I grinded down all the repairs in the central tunnel
And applied a coat of K-Rust underneath.
So that was all for today. Hopefully next week, I can finish to prep the panels and start thinking on getting them in place!
Have a good week all.
Victor.

Thanks Colin. Do you think that area would need any extra paint? I was thinking, once the bodywork is finished, to perhaps put some wax-oil in the cavities to protect those areas even more?
Not sure if that is the right thing to do...

Hello Victor
If am right you have a spot welder. I recommend to use a spotweldable sealant. I used TEROSON MS 9120 on all flanges that I reach with the welder. It will add an additional and durable rust protection. If you apply it you will have 10 minutes to spot weld two pieces together before bonding. There is a Teroson 9220 with 15 minutes opening time.
I hope I will see your car finished one day

Hi Gaspen,
I didn't know that such thing even exists! My intention was to apply zinc primer to the pieces, spot weld them and seam sealed everything after the first coat of 2K epoxi primer. I will have a look on that product and if it is not too expensive I might consider using it.
Thanks mate.
Yeah, me too! I hope it will be finished some day, now getting closer!

Looks like you're making good progress with this project! Slow and steady wins the race; it's clear you're learning a lot as you go, and it's showing on the car. Can't believe how much metal you've had to replace! It's a lot of dedication to save the car, and I can't wait to see the end results. What are your plans with the engine, suspension, etc?

Hi Will,
Thanks mate that is appreciated. Don't have much time to dedicate to this, so it needs to be slow and steady, there's no other way! ;))
For the engine, suspension and the rest of it the plan is simple: keep it as original as possible. The only thing I may do is to improve the brakes and add front disks. Other than that, I'm going for factory settings.
Once this project is finished (if ever...) I have many ideas for my next project, where I'm thinking to do something not factory settings! Let's see if I don't get a divorce before that...

Someones say the drum brake is an improvement above disks on 10" wheels

I know the feeling, I'm a little stuck on my own project at the moment, as I can't dedicate the time before Christmas. I'm away for 3 weeks, and I can't really justify leaving it at work to clutter up space for all that time when I'm not working on it. I don't want to rush to get it done either.

Hi Will, I'm sure you will figure something out!
Today I continued preparing to put the new floors in.
Cleaned up the toe board and drilled some holes for plug welding. The floor will be installed with a mix of plug and spot welding...
Then I thought better repair that toe board section, before getting the floor panel in. Cut the area
Cardboard template
Fresh new metal cut to fit
Fit in position
And welded in
Grinded down and zinc primered ready for the floor panel
Then went for a walk with my dog and spotted this beauty around the corner...
More updates tomorrow!

Very excited about today!
I managed to get the floor panel in, although it still needs some adjusting it already looks great in the car! :)
First I finished to prep the car and the panel, as once it is in, it would be very difficult and painful to take it out.
The tunnel was starting to get some surface rust, so I applied some K-Rust to keep it out.
Then I drilled all the plug holes and make sure all were cleaned
I removed the black paint from the step and applied some zinc primer. This area will be spot welded.
Then with a bit of effort I managed to get the floor panel in. It does look good, even if it is not fully adjusted!
I'm using some screws to adjust the panel to fit at the rear. It is almost in place.
It is now adjusted to the rear and along the door step.
Now I need to adjust the front, and it should be ready to cut the floor panel along the central tunnel to get it welded.
Really looking for next weekend!
Have a lovely week folks.
Victor.
