I'd like to swap my non dipping rearview mirror for a dipping one.

1990 cars have the screw on type, I've seen a new old stock mirror, part no: CTB10002, is it easy to pop the ball bit out the socket and swap it over?  Is there cir clip holding it in, as I can't seem to find anything online and I'm not by the car at the moment.

Many thanks.

In our car ('93) I just pressed/tilted the mirror while keeping the base stil. The mirror came of from the ball. There was no circlip.

Reinstalled it in the reversed way.
93 is al so a bolt on mirror base. So I guess your mirror would be the same.

My 1993 car has a Pre 1990 mirror with the 3 short machine screws into the window frame. You can just pop the mirror off the ball part of the mount though

The new mirror came, trying to pop the ball end out of the old mirror and the metal snapped like butter, very brittle!

Very annoying!

Annoying, but not all is lost!

You ought to be able to drill a pilot hole in the ball and pull it out with a self-tapper, the bigger the better.

Thanks, but I don’t need that mirror, I do need the a complete stem to push into the old mirror.

Am investigating fixing that or fabricating a new one

That's just unlucky!

I think I'd be looking for another like that on ebay and then cutting it up to release the stem.

Thanks Graeme.

I messaged one eBay, to see if they can remove the stem from the mirror successfully, they haven't come back yet.

If I can't get the ball out to measure it, anyone know what size it should be?

Someone on eBay has sold me just the stem. And I got them to remove it from the mirror before sending it, to check it wouldn’t break on removal, job done!
