Started work on the new front hubs. Trying to work out what the white washer and the small metal ring are for?

metal ring fits between the inner races to give the correct spacing/preload on the outer races - they're matched to the bearing assemblies, so don't mix them up

 

the white plastic ring fits to the cv joint shaft and covers the inboard oil seal as added protection

Looks good there Martin. I can't remember if I have mentioned it elsewhere. I fit Hydrolasic bump stops on the front. These of course, fit the the arms. The standard types work no different to the subframe mounted types, however, the benefit of them is that they are very easy to replace if that ever becomes necessary. I actually run the Competition types, I find these utter magic and quite delightful to run with. Why all bump stops aren't of this design I have no idea. They are also even easier to replace, needing no tools - other than a jack and wheel brace - to replace.

In your photo 2 up, with the arms and brackets etc, what's the bracket on the right for ? I don't recognise it, though could be a modified fuel tank lower mount ?

Chris, not totally out of the way but sufficient to get me back into the garage again. 
 

I’ll look into the bump stops, like everything else so far it’s all a learning curve. The post on the wheel bearings is excellent, a serious bit of precision engineering. I take it nothing is thrown together in your world. I’ll study it carefully.

 

You are correct, it is a modified fuel tank bracket. I didn’t fancy drilling into the tub which is where the original fixing hole looked like it was going to end up. The additional leg will allow me to drill into the lower part of the body , the same section where the fuel tank cover fixing holes are located. I’m struggling to get the fuel tank neck to be positioned centrally in the opening on top of the body. I’d thought about adding additional brackets to the top of it so it would pull up into position. That’s another item to sort.

Are you trying to up-load direct to the forum ? If so, the photo size limit is 2 mb. If you use a host, like Imjur, that's no longer an issue. While it's a little 'clumsy' I actually prefer it as I sit on a few forums and it makes posting up photos as well as finding older photos, easier.

It’s a nightmare trying to get all the fixing points for the seats to match up with the holes in the bodywork. I think I’m going to have to drill new holes in the seat frames and fill in the old ones.
