No I looked at that. I ordered a spot weld drill bit today, let’s see what next week brings.

So I bit the bullet today, one side done. Mixed emotions as the lads who did the body work made such a good job.

Taken the plunge !
If one is careful in removing these parts - as you have been - then if you change your mind, it should all be reversible, though I'm somewhat sure you won't here.

There was nothing careful about the removal. They were spot welded, welded and fixed with a bonding adhesive.

I’ve been looking at my handy work for the past week or so. I’m regretting it a bit. I think I might be going back to the Perspex frames.

My Moke came with an 850cc engine. I believe it originally had an 1100cc engine. I picked this one up from Mervyn Johnston who’s well known in Mini circles in Northern Ireland. He’s left it ready to add a carb, a coat of paint (colour to be decided) and pop it in. He has some nice cars in his garage.

I'm sorry you're disappointed here, what don't you like about your work or the frames ?

Actually, during 1975, they ran out of stocks of locally assembled 1100 engines (with the closure of Zetland the previous year) and begun fitting fully imported 998's. These were painted Black, top to bottom. All the same, if you have tee'd up an 1100, I'd suggest running with that.

I’ve been looking at the bare metal thinking I really bodged it. Perhaps I will prime it and it will look better. I also like the view through the Perspex with no metal frame.

You sir are a font of all knowledge. You know I want a green one. I’ve actually managed to tee up two 1100 engines.

Working on the radius arms. When I stripped out the old bearing I managed to damage it and didn’t realised the outer sleeve was still in the radius arm. When I inserted the new bearings and metal tube I managed to compress the metal tube. It took me three hours with a file and hacksaw blade to get the tube out. I had to get two new tubes machined locally. It all looks well now and the radius arms are getting there.

So tonight I found out what an inner race is. Tried to put the hub with the new bearings onto the radius arm and couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t go right down. The inner race from the old bearing was still on the shaft. A wee bit heat from a turbo torch then my trusty hammer and a small chisel sorted the problem.

Good work mate. I'm glad you went about it in that way. I've seen a few who have tried it with an angle grinder and damaged the arm !. The Boss just behind the inner race is important as that's were the seal runs, and it's also part of the arm !
