Chris, would this sort it. I’m not keen on drilling holes in the tunnel but………..

I hadn't considered them previously, but as the tunnel in the Moke is similar to the pre-rod shift Mini, I feel it would work, though I'll add as the mounts aren't too far apart, it may have a 'rubbery' feel to the shift.

So it’s been a while since I’ve been in the garage working on the Moke. It been a very busy summer at work but it’s time to get this thing sorted. 
 

I picked up an old hood on eBay which will allow me to drill all the fixing holes before painting and make a template for a new hood.

I always seem to be the bearer of not so good news,,,,,, and sorry to say mate, this is just such another time.

The hood you bought will have shrunk and also having been fitted to another Moke for some time, will be quite out of shape as well as being rather hard. I'm sure you've already found it doesn't seem to fit too good and no amount of tugging, clamping, swearing a cursing will get it to fit.

 

If you are eventually getting a Hood made, I would suggest what ever holes are in the body for clips etc welding up and leaving it blank. Your trimmer will know where they are best placed and leave it to them to drill holes for these. I usually take my Moke builds to the trimmer while it's on the stand and where possible, just before paint (though often it seems, it's just after paint). He has a blank canvas to work from and greatly prefers this rather than being locked in to working with something that's less than ideal.

Perhaps have a chat with your trimmer first

I’m still alive. I’m managing to get into the garage to do little bits and pieces. The rear seats have eventually been squared up and fitted. They took a lot of work to get them square ish.

I was worried about the seat frames scraping the body work so I sourced these nylon saddle washers on eBay to hold the seats off the body. They are 19mm diameter to match the frames.

My rear bumper is twisted and not fitting below the bodywork how I want it to, so I’ve decided to make a new one. This is how it stands to date.

Hey Martin !!    Nice to see you pressing on again here mate.

 

I like your attention to detail with the seat spacers. I feel that they'll not only look after the paint work, but make it easier to keep clean around them.

 

Rear Bumper Mounts are quite nice indeed, they look like the belong but too straight and well engineered to be original !
