I added a 3rd flat bar in the middle, and 12 more holes and bolts... So now the wood bars are really solid.

But the rear flat bar was still not as solid as I wanted it. So I made my own curved angle bar by welding a 90 degrees section on it. Now it's more than solid.

I cleaned the welds and it looks ready for finishing. I have 3 choices for the finish:

- Chrome or zinc plating. If too expensive I will go for:

- Powdercoating in the most mirror-like finish. If too expensive I would:

- Paint it myself with rattle cans

I will see in spring time because for now, everything is closed for Covid. I can't paint outside because it's too cold and can't paint inside because the Mini is there.

Meanwhile I put the rack back on the roof and it saves me some space in the garage

For the finish I'm going for the cheaper route with spray cans, as money is better spent elsewhere. I bought a can of ''chrome'' paint, knowing that it will be bright metallic, not chrome obviously.

That allowed me to fill the imperfections with filler before the final primer coat

So here is the final thing! The ''chrome'' paint looked nice but when I ran my finger on it my finger became silver! I didn't want to take chances so I put a clear coat over it. It became more silver and less metallic but it appears solid.
