Create an imgur account, Upload your photos, click on the photo you want to put onto the forum, copy the BBCode and paste it into your post.

This method stores the file on the forum server rather just linking out to some other site. So if/when that outside server changes something, the image wouldn't disappear here.

I use the Choose file button at bottom of the text entry box. Browse to the image on my device file or photo folder, then Attach Image places it in the text entry box.
This method stores the file on the forum server rather just linking out to some other site. So if/when that outside server changes something, the image wouldn't disappear here.
The problem I have with that method, is that my phone takes pictures much larger than the maximum size you can upload, even on my phones lowest resolution setting.
I have to crop and compress a lot just to do a quick photo upload. It's rather a chore in 2020 and the days of one click photo taking and sharing across the web.

The best solution is to have this forum auto resize/down sample all incoming images to a reasonable file size. We had this very issue over on a classic bike forum recently. When I asked the forum support guy about auto down sampling, he looked into it and found it was simple to implement and had it running the next day.

I've been told that forums prefer users to use outside hosting platforms as plonking your pics on the the forums' servers costs bandwidth and therefore money. I'm not sure how true it is...

Not a million miles away from the truth. I believe we have always preferred members to use another platform to host pictures. Obviously this comes at a risk as we all found out with Photobucket!!

On the classic bike forum, we have free memberships which must use external image hosting. These folks also see forum advertisements. We also have VIP members who pay a small annual fee to cover direct image hosting and they are AD free. Works pretty well.

Specifically WRT Photobucket, there was PlugIn available for Chrome and some other browsers that would defeat the PB blocking system. Here is one such fix:

As it currently stands there will be no change on how pictures are hosted on the forum, however I can ask Deathrow to look at this thread if he has not done so already.
