I have EVOs + KYB gas adjust with hi-los and it's fine for a daily drive. Only a few people will be able to give you really objective opinions on this one as it's not something people go to the trouble of replacing on a regular basis given the hassle, plus most cars are driving around on half collapsed cones.

I went for the KYBs. Can’t fault them, great control, excellent ride over most surfaces, but haven’t compared them directly to the Bilsteins. The Bilsteins are a lot cheaper though so I’m sure would be fine for running around town, and better than standard. I’d still get the hi-los regardless of what shock is fitted.

I notice minispares recommend their own Evo knuckle joint too..... Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they really needed?

Another vote for the Evo cones with the hi-lows makes a big improvement.

Sorry to resurrect a thread, but thought it was worth keeping people's opinions on these all in one place...
Which do people find gives the most comfortable ride quality on the road but without demolishing the car's handling:
- MiniSpares Evo cones
- MiniSpares red-spot (on HiLo's naturally)
- MiniSpares FAM3968
They'll be going onto a ground-up rebuild of a van (10" wheels) which will be a daily driver so I'm looking for the least-harsh ride but without destroying the fun.

Don’t be fooled with Evo marketing imo…

I fitted FAM3968 when they were supposedly THE ones to have to my Mrs Mini and to honest I think they are rubbish, I fitted them a couple of years and less than 5000 miles ago and they have basically collapsed, to me a total waste of money, when I go for another set I'll probably go for the Minisport one which seem to get decent right up.

Whose FAM3968's were they, please? The part number is generic.

I did have a set of EVO Cones in the Moke and just recently swapped back to standard.
I found the EVO too hard for my liking and I'll point out that I am usually heavier on the road than most Minis.
I've also read a few here saying that the stock cones sag too quick and similar comments. I found with the Genuine Cones, you can't fit them new off the shelf, I found when you do that, yes, they do sag quite fast. I found if I buy mine at least 6 months before fitting, they don't sag after settling. The particular Cones I have in the Moke now I first fitted in 2016 (and done around 25000 km), despite the weight I put on them, they are fine and show no signs of needing replacing any time soon.
Others in my Moking group have found the same with the stock cones.
