Hey,

I've finally got around to reliving my youth and have purchased a  a Mini (1992 Cooper, SPI). If you're interested, you can see it here: https://sheldon.car.blog.

I have a quick question. When I prop the bonnet stay up, it sometimes falls into the hole and the bonnet comes crashing down. I think I may be missing a rubber grummet either for the hole or for the end of the bonnet stay. Does anyone else have this problem?

I've checked minispares and minisport and I can't spot what I am missing.

Thanks!

Or you are not using it correctly. A picture would help us see what the issue is.

Yes - that is entirely possible too! Or maybe the stay is bent. I'll add a couple of pics soon.

English is not my native tongue and I so bear with me:

As I don't know what you have in front of you, I'll do my "I assume nothing" approach combined with my terrible drawing skills:

The items and function:
The bonnet prob (BKD360030) is the bar that hinges from the bonnet and that is secured at the hinge point with a clip (4B8769 - Clevis pin for bonnet safety catch hook). It can be cllipped onto the bonnet via a clip (CZH209  Clip for retaining/parking bonnet prop) when closing the bonnet

The outer end of the prob slides into a slot on a bracket at the innerwing: (14A7806 Bonnet prop bracket) As the end is in an S-shape (or should be) it can not fall through the slot of the Bonnet prop bracket:

bonnet-prop.jpg

Insert the bonnet prop in the the slot at position A and slide it to position B. the shoulder on the bonnet prop will rest on B now. It should not slide towars A on its own.
If the shoulder is not horizontal you shouyld rebend it in a vice (taking of the bonnet prop from the bonnet first)

Does the above help or can you determine what problem you now have?

Regards,

Johnmar

Check that it hasn't been drinking. I've fallen into a hole and come crashing down a few times after drinking, so it could be that.

Here we go with pictures:

As you can see from the scrapes on the second picture, it falls into that hole quite a lot. It feels like something is missing?

This is very useful - What is apparent is the A/B fixing doesn't exist for me. Maybe it's been removed?

Holy sh**!! (embarrassed)

Thanks, that is highly appreciated.

I like the bonnet stops you have there (left and right), do you have a product code?

That's not where it goes. Hmmm, how many times have we heard that?

I hate stating the obvious but you do have a Haynes manual don’t you?

I owned a mini 20 years ago, I'm a 100% n00b for sure. There will be more stupid questions without doubt. Thanks again to all commenters.

@nicklouse - On it's way!

@cal844 - The OP? Tell me more.

@Red Riley - I guess we should stop this thread here? :)
