Hi , Ive a 1991 Rover Cooper with conversion plate No 0285-S on cill inside below drivers door, has single petrol tank. Is this a Cooper S and which models had twin fuel tanks ?.Thanks

Last cooper S with twin fuel tanks was 1971.

John Cooper offered a vast range of options and upgrades to owners of Rover Mini Coopers during the 1990's including alloy Right Hand fuel tanks (see extract from options lists below), however they were not fitted as standard at the Longbridge factory production line.

The car will be a 1275cc Rover Cooper fitted with a John Cooper Conversion kit...assuming that the plate is genuine and nothing has been changed in the engine bay since the kit was fitted.

Forgot to mention, you could check with the Rover Cooper registrar (John Parnell) at the Mini Cooper Register to see if he has the car on the register that he keeps for Cooper conversions.
