Jus to put my 2 eggs into the frying pan...
Anyone think it would it be possible to use a belt drive from an R1 output sprocket,
obviously not an easy idea but jus a thought...
Im thinking theyd be pretty strong as the v8 supercharger belts are good for 300hp, and you wouldnt loose power like a chain as the mechanical friction is elliminated...
Also wouldnt need to be replaced as often as the chains would...
Excuse me if im talking a load of c**p, ive jus been reading through this post
wandering if theres a way around the chain problem other than an expensive transfer box...
Feel free to put me right :-

That is bloody genious mate! Very impressed with the shear simplicity of the project.
My only concern is how your chain is adjusted/ tensioned. If the tension can't be accurately adjusted it will constantly come off and chew sprockets.
Perhaps You could use c shaped spacers (so you can slide them in/out) under your engine mounts to raise the engine up to tighten the chain up once it's run in?

Hi people, just thought Id say my thoughts have completly change over the last month (suprise, suprise) and I am now installing an R1 in the front much like this project too. My car is currently pictured on the Lynx AE website ( www.lynxae.com ). The only reason I never considered it before was because I wasn't keen on not having a reverse gear but Jon has now developed it with a reverse gear.

Keep up the good work mate. Looks excellent.

Well if im honest, Im not too sure yet as Jon hasn't yet completed it but I think he's aiming at between 3-4 grand. He's just waiting for the bespoke exhaust manifold to be made.

Oh and the craddle that the motor sits in is now different to the one in the picture. I think that one was just a quick idea.

Any news on any of these wonderful projects?

My gearbox has gone, and im now thinking about spending the cash I would have on a s/c box, and putting it towards a bike conversion!

My mate Darren MIGHT as in olny MIGHT be setting himself up as his own business so he will be working on his kits full time so you can buy a kit of him. As for the reverse the engine bay is a bit tight for the extra gumbins so its normally get out and push

Here is a update on the FWD-R1 project.I have finished the trottle/clutch cabels. Also finished the gear lever/knob linkage.
Things left are exhaust manifold, cooling and electrical. Also changed the final drive ratio to 108mph@10500rpm.
Should not be to long before i can take a test drive ;D .For those who wonderd about chain tension, i have shims under the bearing holders for the diff, that i can take out as the chain get broken in.
