Sounds like ditching the rocker cover in favour of a non breather type is the way forward. I can keep an eye on the timing cover breather then to see if I get too much appear there. Thanks.

How do you want it to work?

the MED and ones similar are not really suited to road use.

I just need to catch the oil that comes from my rocker cover breather at higher revs. Usually after sitting at motorway speeds for prolonged time at 4500rpm +. The transfer case and timing cover ones don’t tend to leak anything.

An odd thing happened yesterday when oil came up through the rivet on my rocker cover. That’s a first for me.

Hi, I might be wrong, but a catch can is really there to catch oil fumes and to gas that build up in the engine. it then condensates it in the catch can. it's not really there to catch liquid oil. I don't think that will change anything to the oil spilling out of the rivets. or am I wrong ?

I considered a Catch Can at some point, but it turns out that the standard set-up on mine (2 stocks pipes connecting to the carb) is good enough. As a matter of fact, the 2 little canister that are sitting on the timing and the clutch side contain in fact metal mesh (or sponge) that should condensate enough the oil. My oil is probably more dirting, but since I change it anyway religiously every year, I don't really mind.

It all depends on how it is set up.

they came fashionable in modern cars where they were fitted into the engine vent system to give a space to hopefully catch any vapour before it enters the induction system. How effective these are is hard to work out as there is nothing for the oil to condense on or cause it to drop out of suspension.

then there is the original that is mainly there to catch any oil expelled by the engine during racing.

Actually, unless you buy a really crappy Alibabium Titane alloy catch can, there should be in there a thick bronze filter that does condensate oil in the can.  ;D

what is questionnable as well is the effisciency of a catch-can without the intake vaccum. At least it will let the pressure reach equilibrium so there is always that.

and yes, you are correct for the catch can in racing, of course.

I got this Mocal tank from Think Automotive. As running s/c the timing chain cover breather is deleted, instead I have the redundant mechanical fuel pump hole fitted with a breather attachment, the clutch end has a similar fitting, and the top left rocker cover also has a barb welded to it, all connected to the catch tank.

Fumes are drawn out by the small blue hose connected to the vac nipple on the throttle body. Catch tank never really fills up, but I guess the breathing function works all ok.
