can the AZX1817 model fuel pump be interchanged for the AZX1818MS on my 1275 engine? Would I need to make any changes to the carb ? codes are the parts from mini spares as I cannot post images on this forum;)

actually - it was something else (after stripping the carb twice!)
It was the fact that when he put the new fuel pump on he forgot to use the spacer, so it was over ppressuring!!!
Spacer on pump added and she roared into life... once the carb was primed ;)
Thnaks all

Hmmm.... our local garage seems to think that as the carb is spilling loads of fuel, that the new fuel pump is too strong... is this the case or is the carb more likely at fault?

If this helps anyone, I've been over-pressuring my 62 Mini for a year now with a 7psi Edelbrock because that's the only one the shop had when mine kicked the bucket.
It has a tendency to overflow the fuel bowl from time to time, but if your carb is nice and clean with relatively new parts inside (ie: a new pin), you should be able to get away with a few exra psi.
And on that note, it's time for me to finally buy the low-pressure pump I should have :)
