Hi everyone,

I have an old set of triple clocks from a GTS and I was wondering if there was any way to refurbish the tired plastic trim. It is a bit faded and has some scratches on it. While it hasn't been fitted to the car, I figured it would be good to try and restore the colour to it.

Regards,

Vinay

I use ACF50.

Works great on plastic and especially good on the black switches when they go cloudy.

I have used a Turtle Wax product called Black Chrome, however I think the container I used is older than I am so I am not sure if it is still available. Worked a treat though.

For black plastic, had good success with a Mother's product called "Back to Black" available at most retailers here in N.America. I just used some on an old parched plastic wheel arch and now its looking like new. If it just needs a little spruce up form dirt and dullness, try ArmourAll plastic/vinyl treatment. I prefer the low gloss type on most car interior surfaces.

ACF-50, as mentioned earlier, is really a good anti-corrosion treatment meant for metal work. I'm sure it will give a shine to old plactics, but it is an oil and not really a wax or plastic treatment. I'd thinkj WD40 will achieve the same results as ACF50 will on plastic...but likely not last long as proper plastic treatments and both will leave residue for future fingers to pick up.

Acf50 is a good corrosion treatment but as mentioned on there website also good on plastic amongst other things.

I did my dash switches over 5 years ago and they still look good. And once wiped off no residue. Give it ago and you might be surprised. But its not cheap, but it goes along way.

Wd40 is no comparison. Just my opinion.

I have no affiliation to either WD40 or ACF50.

Not sure if the photos will show it up well but nothing like real life testing.

In real life the ACF50 cleans it to a nicer blackness with a slight sheen, and seams to clean the dirt off more easily. It wipes off leaving no residue that you can feel. When I first used ACF50 on plastic it suprised me how good a job it did.

I use tyre shine to give plastic and rubber parts their 'blackness' back. Just spray the stuff on and after a couple of hours or overnight residence time I even the effect by a few strokes with a dry paint brush (if necessary).
