Hi all.

I have recently had the pleasure of dealing with Bill Richards who has rebuilt an engine for me and he has asked me to let the community know that he is in the process of relocating from Ashford, Kent over here to the isle of wight.

Bill does all of the reconditioned and modified engines for Minispares and offers his services to the public whether it's a standard rebuild or an out and out monster.

He is a lovely guy and knows absolutely everything to do with our mini's engines and definitely worth speaking to if you require engine work or rebuilds.

He has had built a very nice modern workshop and it's kitted out with all the equipment nessacery to do all aspects of machine work.

If anybody has any enquiries for him, I would be happy to pass on his details.

Cheers

Ben

I like that set up - one can do the Marshmallows while doing laps :D

That would have to get hot in the cabin, I take it there's a cover to go over the pipe ?

It's fine for the UK. It gets cold over there and this acts as their heater :P

Those from UK and USA are lucky. In Spain these transformations cannot be made. No one can approve it for domestic use.

That wouldn’t be road legal, it would be for track use only

That Mini is built for racing but engine transplants of any kind can be road legal in the UK including Ford BDH or a Honda Vtec, etc......I am guessing road going modifications like that are not allowed in Spain?

Hi! In Spain they do not allow you to alter the original characteristics of an engine or change it for another type Honda, Vauxhall (Opel) or put a compressor or Turbo. Come on, you can do it but without the certificate of legality. If the authorities catch you driving with a Honda Mini engine and 14-inch wheels, you can end up in jail.

Before (until a few years ago) there were laboratories that were able to carry out a valid project and you obtained the Legal certificate to be able to drive on the road. Now the legislation is tougher and stricter and does not allow this.

Yes you can change the motor for another one of "equal" characteristics. You pay a fee and the new engine number is added to the vehicle documentation. For example, in a classic Mini Mk1 or Mk2, if you want to put seat belts in the rear seats, you must do a Homologation project, you pay and you already have it. But a VTEC is not possible.

Regards, Luis

I would say he has the space but im not sure if he offers that service. It's not something I thought to ask him.

I'll have a chat with him and see which contact details he would like put up and then you can speak to him

Cheers

Ben
