what's the best engine cleaner to use? My engine is a bit on the dirty side with old oil from a leaky gasket sat on the block. I'm wanting to clean it up, any recommendations?

Petrol does the job for me, once you've cleaned the engine give the road a wash with a pale of water to disperse it, or just leave it to evaporate

I have used a few bottles of elbow grease from home bargains. Very cheap and a great product.

I use brake cleaner spray, we use this at work to clean surfaces on very well used diesel engines.

I use paraffin from a garden centre for the heavy work, I recently found I had an old CarPlan engine cleaner aerosol which worked really well.

Jizer if I can get hold of some. Always was better than Gunk as it didn't leave a residue. Other alternatives are turps/white spirit/gunk. Always wash off afterwards with hot soapy water..

No Nonsense degreaser from Screwfix . Put it in a garden pressure spray bottle ,spray it on leave it to soak in , then wash it off with warm soapy water . Stubborn areas use a stiff paint brush to work it in
