Hey Darren.
How are you guys doing?
Thanks for the compliments.
Hows Jack's mini?

We're all good, mini's looking as fresh as when we picked it up from you. Just about to have a 1293 heart transplant

Brilliant! Hope you enjoy it.
I have a mini in at the moment that I've just put a 1293 in and the owner has asked me to put on the running in miles for hom so that's nice.
It goes really well.

Great work Ben, lovley job. Are the door skins genuine or non genuine.
I’ve just fitted magnum door skins to mine, they fitted as well as the heritage ones in my opinion and are half the price, I bought them from mini sport
These were non genuine ones.
I have always found heritage ones to be very good but no harm trying these ones and I'm glad I did.

Ben,
I know you mentioned you were using some pattern panels on the front end, do you think they were worth the cost saving in the end?
I ended up using the following pattern parts.
A panels
Wings
Front panel
Door skins
1 step
The a panels are absolutely fine, the wings and front panel need some twisting and minor mods but mainly time.
If you have the time, then they are worth the saving.
The step isn't as crisp as a genuine one but looks fine and fits well.
I was surprised and impressed with the door skins. They needed some minor tweaking but you will get that with most minis as they are all slightly different, particularly if the car has had other panel work to the surrounding panels.
They are definitely worth the saving.
Cheers
Ben
Thanks Ben, your opinion is always highly valued

I’m starting to get worried now Ben! Haven’t seen an update on this one for a good while! I’m getting withdrawals!!
I know, tell me about it.
I'm itching to continue with it but I was away last week and this week has been other bookings.
I did some restoration work on an MGB recently and the car was being reassembled elsewhere to keep the cost down. That's back with me this week for me to flat and polish so that's keeping me busy! The owner also changes his mind about the mirrors so I had to weld up the mounting holes in the doors and repaint those too.
I'll be back in the advantage next week now.
Cheers

I didn't realise I hadn't taken pictures of the passenger door before I started to repair it.
It was pretty much as bad as the other side but instead of big holes in the skin, the bottom of the frame was more rotten.
As the process is the same as the other side, I just have a photo of the finished frame
And now both the frame and new skin are in primer
I shall fit the skin in the morning and try it on the car.
Cheers

I'm yet to add the 3rd.
I'll do that before the skin goes on.
I added the outer ones to the repair pieces before I welded them in but the centre section I made separately and didnt drill the hole
Posted 25 November 2020 - 04:15 PM
I started off this morning by uniting the skin with the frame
And then once folded, its ready to go on
Once I had blasted the hinges, spacers and spreader plates, the door went on for the first try
Not too bad but the skin needs to come back slightly and the front profile doesn't match the A panel...
After a play about and slightly reprofiling the edge of the A panel, its much better
The profile at the back of the skin doesn't match the quarter panel so I used some 2.4 steel welding filler rods to add material to the skin in the correct profile
And then once fully welded on and ground up, the profile can be fine tuned to match
And that finishes that off
I then finished this repair
And sorted out the missing bit of gutter here
And that's this side done
Very minor stuff to go now before I can start getting it ready for paint!
Cheers

I think the next stage is going to be to get this back on the spot to finish off the last bits and pieces.
Before I do that,I want to prime the engine bay so that I can bolt the spit frame back in and then it can stay in.
First off is to prep up and applyasmidge of stopper in the couple if remaining Pitts.
And then sandblast the hinges
And then in with the epoxy
Cheers
