Took the motorway home, bit of a different experience. Got it up to 115km/h, bit sluggish going up a hill whilst passing a truck. Oil pressure and temp gauges sat at 55psi and 90deg, about 5kms from home the temp gauge crept up to 100~105, but then settled back down to 90ish. Also made up some better center cap covers.

And had to park it beside the other vehicle I drive at work every now and again....

Made it to the show, bit stressful as everything kinda snowballed after the rain stopped me from getting car ready yesterday. Gave it a quick once over this morning, pulled the tappet chest cover and put some liquid gasket on it, oil topped up and coolant levels checked.

About a 50min drive to the show, not too bad of a drive, brakes still bedding in so a bit of chirping from them. Slightly adjusted mixture nut clockwise before driving home, but it made the flat spots worse, stopped at some family on way home adjusted it back anticlockwise , then back another few flats, made it better but still not 100%.

All going great until slip road off motorway, cut out at roundabout, battery was acting dead, but thankfully traffic cop was just behind me, he gave me an escort to a nearby turn off, then gave me a push start.

Wrecked now after a 200M push to that slip road 😅😅😅

Walked passed your Jiffy a few times but you mustn't have been there! Looked good!

So the car has been moved back to the shed, a good few small jobs to be completed before the next outing, which will possibly be 2 weeks away.

Jobs include;
Finding and fixing the oil leak
Sorting the leak from windscreen
Torque check on nuts and bolts
Adjust back brakes & tightened handbrake slightly
Try and reduce the noise coming into cabin
Wire up rev counter
Get idle speed corrected
Grease speedo drive cable to see if it will solve speedo stopping after 10kms or so...

I think I will also change the oil, about 250kms done in total so think it will be worth doing just to clean out any particles from piston rings bedding in.

Trying to eliminate the source of the oil leak, new rocker cover gasket and rubber seals, tappetsl chest cover gaskets and rubber bolt seals, also put some instant gasket on tappet gaskets and around the bolt hole. Cleaned off all traces of oil on the sump, then noticed a small weep from oil filter to block hose, so nipped those up too.

Put on sill trims, but used some adhesive polyurethane just to be sure they stay on.

New choke cable trunnion and reset the accelerator cable to make sure it was opening fully with pedal to floor.
Some foam insulation in bulkhead opening, hopefully it reduces cabin noise.

A few touch ups of blue paint done this morning before work, mainly on the underside where parts had touched against the paint during installation. Fully dried by the time I went out this evening.

Drained the oil, oil filter removed, not too much crud in the oil, a small amount of particles in the sump magnet, probably from everything bedding in. Need to get more oil as the one I got was only 4.25L...

Drilled some extra holes in the front side of airbox (watching too many AC Dood videos!) then noticed the breather pipe attachment point wasn't open, so drilled through that, hopefully that was cause of oil leak through lack of block breathing...

Swapped out spark plugs to new set that had gaps pre-set (Thanks Neil @ Richmonds classics) so hopefully get it back on its wheels tomorrow and ready to use at the weekend! 🤞🤞

Got it out of the shed this morning, then back out to front of the house this evening. Tried adjusting the fuel mixture and idle speed, idle speed is now too high but it's running without having to have choke on a bit. Don't think I have improved the fuel mixture, if anything it's slightly worse now, so may turn it back a few flats. I'm a bit lost with getting it set right so may need to find someone local to help.

Still an oil leak, suspect its from timing cover or timing plate gasket. But it's not much, it's just frustrating that it's happening even with the uprated gaskets.

A wash and a polish to get rid of all the tree sap from parking under a tree at the show the other week..

Took it out for a nice spin this evening, 75km round trip, going to cars and coffee meet in the morning, so will check the oil before going 🛢️

It's not a Mini if it doesn't leak, isn't it? ;)  Looks like you are enjoying yourself mate.

Victor.

Thanks Victor, hopefully I can sort the leak or at least reduce it, its making a mess of the driveway and splashing over the nice clean underside

A nice morning out at Cars and Coffee North East yesterday, lots of nice cars about and a fair few minis. Was great to get chatting to some other mini nuts.
