thank you! i agree, i love modifying minis as much as anybody but i think it’s nice to keep the limited editions as they’re intended

I agree, there are plenty of projects on Ebay that have long since lost there originality that make great projects for modding and one offs. Good luck with the project.

I reassembled the bootlid after paint had dried along with the hinges and plate light housing. Turned out ok for rattle cans and is more presentable until the proper paintwork happens.



starting to look better now. still need to fit my correct Thirty wheels and refurb them, replace the windscreen and address a couple of rust blisters but all in good time



next job was to replace the alloy door furniture for original black plastic trims. Something i think makes a big difference

after! The door cappings aren’t original but i think they look good and fit with the interior.


my eyeball vent covers arrived so fitted up both air vents to finish off the dash



next up was to fix the engine steady bush which had clearly had it’s day. Found a new bush in my spares so fitted that





My next job is to sort the blowing exhaust so next job will be to take the carb and manifolds off

Got round to looking into the exhaust blow before it got any worse.

Was nice an easy to spot where it was coming from.. interesting!



took the manifold off as was also blowing from the head



small hole that I welded up. Will be replacing the manifold eventually so just wanted to patch it up for now



gasket had also failed. the lower manifold steady bracket wasn’t attached so the head join was taking all the strain.



Whilst the exhaust and carb was off i had a look in the head and had a nice surprise in finding it had has some porting work done at some point.

So got the exhaust all bolted back up and thought i’d change the rocker cover. Another nice find was double valve springs. I suspect it has an uprated cam too judging by how the engine goes but will see when i take the engine out





I also managed to pick up some correct wheels with the holes in line with the spokes as fitted to the 30 and RSP. Need to give them a paint but all good and straight with decent tyres. The wheels currently on the car are incorrect as they’re the more ‘regular’ style with holes between spokes, except for the drivers front wheel weirdly!

painted up the new wheels this morning. very pleased with how they turned out for a rattle can job







then painted the centre caps quick and fitted them. will fit to the car tomorrow and see how it all looks. sidewalls also need a clean but you get the idea

Yeah, they look really good for a rattle can! Did you have much sanding to do?

Mine look like they where painted with a brush, hoping the 12" rim will fit in the sand blasting cabinet because I don't fancy doing them by hand lol

thanks! luckily didn’t need too much sanding the paint was pretty good, just a bit of a roughen up for paint to adhere to

got the wheels fitted yesterday, not a great photo but certainly looks better already



next job is to take front and rear screens out to sort a couple of rust bubbles. bang in the middle of a house move at the moment so might have to wait a little bit before i can

you did a great job with the wheels, they look really good. I have a similar set to refurb, but the paint on mine is poor so will have to come which i am not looking forward to!

Yes that is what I plan to do, I think I might try and shot blast them for speed
