You can spray it but it's alkyd based so you would need to use acetone and not thinners.
I think the recoat times are quite long too. Something like 24 hours between coats from memory.
Might be as well to brush it on straight from the tin.

ive seen people paint engines and they look hand painted, thats why i wanted to spray it on. But maybe just paint in on and hope for the best... thanks again!

I think the biggest problem with brush painting engines is that the job is usually rushed and too much paint is applied in each coat.
You can't expect to get a decent full coat with one application. It needs to be built up gradually in thin coats observing the correct recoat times and then you will get a quality finish.
If you are set on spraying it on, you might be better off finding an alternative paint. Is there any of the original paint remaining on the engine that you could use to get a colour match? Failing that, you could always hand paint a scrap of metal in the somerford paint and then take it in to be matched at a paint supplier.
Cheers
Ben

yes the head and block still have the original paint on them. But as you say, if i do gradual coats, maybe itll look good. I think part of the engines ive seen teh paint looks far too thick, and that is why. I think also, when people paint the ally parts, makes a difference too, i want it to look factory.
thanks again

thanks again ben, the paint came today from summerford along with a big order of parts to rebuild the engine. I was quite surprised as the yellow is more like the yellow i remember with mixed with dirty 20/50 already in it! It seems a very strange choice of colour by austin rover !!! thanks though

When you get a chance to paint up the block with the paint from Somerford Mini I'd appreciate a photo...I have photos of the engine bay of my car when it was new in 1990, but the film stock/camera/photo processing wasn't the same back then as it is now so I'm unsure of colour accuracy. However, how you have described the paint sounds the same as how I'd describe my engines colour when the car was new ?

well i have painted it already!
Now, this is strange, when i post the pic, it look bright yellow but it isnt
In real life it looks like the older paint on the head, and the head looks darker.
The engine looks like how i remember it to be, not bright in your face yellow but like some left over yellow from the army they used in desert war! On my lada i had the block was in russian army grey lol
HTH.

look at the tin on the right hand side of the pic, its like that. It is the right stuff defo, and if you do an order from summerford for other bits the postage isnt that much.
