I vaguely remember coming across as spreadsheet on a website which has BL/Austin rover part numbers against Lucas alternator part numbers, detailing output etc (eg Amp rating)

It was quite a large document covering BL vehicles from the 1950s up to the 1990s

I am putting  an another alternator on may 1988 mini ADU9670.

Any one comes across such data?

thanks

A quick google of ADU9670 shows it as an alternator rated at 55 amps @ 14v output. Looking on other car part sites it seems to be available in different current ratings. It’s also listed with a 70 amp output!

Cheers, Steve.

The 'type'  number gives you most of the data you'd need - on your picture it is an A127 alternator with a 45A output.

The only thing 'special' to the mini would be the pulley and spacing of it, which you can transfer from what you have.

Any A127 should fit, and a higher output never really hurts.

This one should be a direct swap:

Thanks guys, the alternator fit wise is a straight swap, it’s the ampere figure which I get different values from various websites

The A127 alternator generally seems to be listed on several sites as a 75A output.

Cheers, Steve.

The one in the picture is 45A. That’s the lowest output they did them in I believe.

If that’s the old one, then anything 45A or bigger will be absolutely fine.

If that’s the replacement one then, unless your ‘88 Mini is running lots of extra electrical items like big stereos, additional lights, high powered headlamp bulbs etc.... it will be fine. (assuming it’s working OK, being a secondhand alternator)

If I want to replace the pulley, I need too loosen the nut, is it normal righthand thread or left? How do I block the thing from rotating?

They are a Right Hand Thread. The A127's I've seen have a Inhex in the Shaft so you can hold that with an ordinary Inhex ('Allen') Key. Other's I've done that don't have the Inhex, I did make a tool for but prior to having that, I used some timbers between the jaws of the Vice and held it that way.

Wrap a fanbelt around the pulley tightly and hold the ends in a vice. With practice it is self tightening,Steve..

Already got it off and on, with big waterpump pliers to hold the pulley.

I now placed a new powerlite pca00100luc , genuine Lucas 18acr, remanufactured alternator (or so the label sais)

It was recommended by my English car part shop, should be good. Just had the replace the pulley with my old one because the new one did not line up. Very true, I did so and it fits well. I just saw now that it is only 34A, is that enough? My old one was 45A.

my car is negative earth, anybody knows if this alternator suits my car?

@area51, sorry for hijacking your thread.
