Hi guys,

 

Just thought I'd make a post as I'm not too sure if people know about it!

 

I've broken one too many plastic brake light switches in the past (not even tightening them that much!), so I thought and see if there are any others which I could replace it with.

 

Surprisingly, some Triumphs use the same plastic switch and they've found that this switch works (used on old Volvos & BMWs);

*cheaper ones can be found on eBay ect! OEM part number - 1368786

 

I can confirm it's a straight swap! It's like its made for the mini actually!

Shop around, if you search for the BMW(?) OEM part number - 1368786 - on ebay, you can find it cheaper then Euros price.

I should have probably done that, oops! But there's a local Euro near me and I needed it ASAP!

 

From what I've seen online there's a few variants, even a Lucas one! This one made by FAE is well made though!

Very helpful, I had a look and there’s tons on ebay ranging from £7.99+ all different brands under that part number, metal will surely last loads longer than the crappy plastic ones, good find!

I swapped over to these about 10+ years back

 

 

They are a similar price or maybe a little dearer than the stock switch, but they are an Industrial switch so very high quality. With the two nuts, they allow for some adjustment too.

I recall now in particular why I went to these, it was when I fitted up the Cruise Control, and it relies on the Brake Light Switch to be reliable. For that set up, I've also fitted the same switch to the Clutch.

Looks quality and fairly cheap too! I'm surprised no mini suppliers (that I know of) stock alternatives to the rubbish plastic ones thinking about it!

My thought exactly, however it's probably because they haven't been tested for automotive use or some such nonsense.

Spider is this a straight fit? It's a 12mm hole isn't? Is the minis that big I can't remember!

Yes, straight in fit. The body on this switch is a little smaller than the original in fact.

 

It does look huge in that Picture, I should snap on off of those I have so people can get a better idea of their true size.
