Ive stripped out the engine bay on my mini cooper 1.3 spi. However I can see that the studs that hold the master cylinder mounting plate in place have corroded and/or are stripped in places. This is on the box section of the bulkhead.

However  I cant see of any way of replacing them. They seem to be welded in place.

Also how do I replace the forked brake plunger thingummy. The pivot pin is pressed in place and Im not able detach it from the pedal assembly.

Many thanks

T

Remove pedal assy, drill out old bolts/studs weld in new ones.

I think those studs are part of the pedal box, if you want to replace them you will either need to do as nicklouse says, or buy a new pedal box.

Are you sure you couldn't clean them up and re-cut the existing thread?

It doesn't look too bad, mine looked very similar. I'd run a die down the threads. Get as much of the rust off with a wire wheel and use a rust converter for the rest. Use a 8.8 nyloc nut when reassembling.
Not sure what you mean about the pivot pin being machined in?

Like I said remove drill out and weld in new studs. And I bet the yolk comes out with the pedal box.

Not tackled one, but it looks like the pushrod will fit through the hole if the boot is unseated and pushed through first. The factory had to get it in somehow.

The cylinder studs I've tackled have just had a small dab of weld to stop them spinning, just grind it back. If you didn't have a welder (is that likely since you own a Mini  ) it ought to be a beer money job to get some bolts tacked back on once nutted in to place.

I would say those studs will clean up fine and the plunger rod will come off with the pedal (or leave it in place and just pull the plate over the 'U' once you've pulled the rubber boot off the plate)

Aaaaargh I see!!!

I didnt understand before but now I do!! The studs are part of the pedal box assembly and not part of the bulkhead. They simple poke through that part of the bulk head but not attached to it. I get it now.

Ive seen a second hand assembly on ebay with decent studs. Are these generic across all minis? Mines a rover 1.3 cooper spi.

Pedal boxes are not the same. There are small differences. Different pedals. Mounts for switches. Different springs etc.

but as said yours do not look that bad.
