Hello.

1993 L reg spi cooper.

My headlights are original.

They light up the road ahead, but only the first 2 feet in front of the car and only enough to know that you can't see what's ahead.

Has anyone got any good experience / recommendations about headlight upgrades?

With links to website for products?
Things / products to avoid?

Sorry if this is a well worn (out) subject

I ran a website search first, but couldn't find anything....which probably means my search was a bit rubbish

Thanks in advance

If you can find them Cibie H180's they are or were manufactured by Valeo expect to pay around £85-100 for a pair

I believe they were Halogen from the factory, have a look on the lens itself for H4 or sealed beam. If sealed beam buy a Halogen conversion.

I'd also recommend a headlight relay kit so the car can handle the required power for brighter lights, also fit Osram Nightbreaker bulbs.

It is a little expenditure but you will get a decent improvement especially at night. Yes it wont be as bright as modern mercedes lights but that's another story lol.

Hope this helps

Thanks both.

My current lights are Wagner sealed beam units, so a halogen conversion seems to be the way to go, I assume?

Any good, simple, one out, one in, easy to connect options out there in mini spares dot com world?

It's an easy conversion, you will need to do some very basic wiring to the sidelight connections.

Get some Cibie H180s with Oram Nightbreaker bulbs.

The reflectors and beam pattern is far better than any other halogen headlight available but they’re not as cheap.

DONT convert to either LED or HID bulbs, I tried and failed.

My wife kindly bought me a pair of P200 headlights for when I get my Mini back on the road (94 Mayfair SPi).

It did have H4 headlights installed, but they where to be honest crap, even with Osram Nightbreakers.

The headlights should be H4 and not sealed beam Id have thought given the year and spec of your Mini.

I've googled Cibie H180 and the only thing I can find is a headlight for a Morgan. Same thing?

I've had my mini for 3 years.

What happened to it (and its headlights) before that, who knows?

The sealed beam units in it now might have been a previous owner's preference (or mistake)

Also go under the Valeo part number 82439 but I think they have stopped making them - they are incredibly difficult to find now and only seem to crop up singularly on ebay etc

Hadn’t realised there was a subscription option. I use the mobile app version mostly. No tabs at the top. Thanks for the pointer. Now paid up, joined. Happily.
