Last year I took out an insurance policy with Footman James. At the time I thought it was an absolute bargain, £575 in my own name at 17, first year of driving on a Mini Clubman.

I was really pleased with it, as it also included breakdown cover etc.

When I came to renew my insurance, Footman James this time wasn't the cheapest. So I got another insurance policy, this time with Direct line with my 1 years NCB I earnt the year before.

Direct line now want to see my proof of NCB, so I phoned Footman James to request it.

This is when they said to me, Footman James don't give NCB for classic car policys!!

This has really hacked me off, mainly as I wasn't told about it when I took out the policy, and its now going to cost me another £400 or so!

So basically, anyone thinking about going for Footman James, ITS NOT THE CHEAPEST IN THE LONG RUN!! :o

Get Footman James to issue you a letter confirming that you have had no claims whilst you have been insured with them.

Direct line should accept this instead of the standard proof of NCB, if they won't there are lots of other insurance companies that will accept it.

Quite a few classic car policy issuers dont do NCB as they assume that you wont drive the car much, part of the reason the premium is so low on them.

how much cheaper was direct line? if its not a lot would it be cheaper to stay with footman james than forking out an extra 400 with direct line?

I've been tring to get a letter off footman james for my new policy with HIC - they are being idiots about it tho - the left me on hold for ages, then i just gave up and called back another day, then again, then again. So e-mailed them instead and they still aint replied - if you aint got ur polic with them anymore they dont want to know

Well I would of had another cheap quote with the mini, but because I'm now in the "modern" 205, they wanted £1500 quid, which is £700 more then directline.

Jetblick- yeah I was on hold for ages too, its really put me off going with them again..

Same thing happened to me when trying to get insurance on my golf..

Got a quote on the basis I had one years no claims, paid for it then got a letter from footman James that Classic car policys do not carry over the NCB, told my new insurance company and the premium doubled!

I was footman james last year and then when they were more expensive this year i went with HIC through miniworld. My policy was based on the fact i had one years no claims, as i had been driving 1 year without claiming, even thigh classic policy's dont give no claims I hadnt claimed for a year so was still en-titled to a discount in my eyes.

I phoned footman james and asked them to send me a letter stating i had no claimed for a year and I recieved it within bout 4 days. I sent a copy to HIC and they were fine about it

Just because classic policy's dont give out no claims, in my eyes if you havent claimed for a year then you have 1 years no claims

Ello

Darn, I've just moved the VW camper (£120 on a classic policy) and the avensis (£240 on a std policy) over to them...

I was quoted three times for these by some other companies..... they're sooo cheap.

I was even gonna suggest to the ball and chain she move the mini's over to them next year.

I've tried direct line a couple of years ago and they were really, really expensive...

I can't recommend enough though both http://www.confused.com/ and http://www.moneysupermarket.com

These two have saved me, folks and friends loads over the last couple of years!

I just rang footman james (got straight through as usual) and asked about this.

They told me it isn't true and I'll be getting my classic policy no claims discount & if I leave I can take any full years with me.

They seem perfect and I can't believe the bad press they've got on here but am suspicious, no smoke without fire....

Might see if I can get this in writing just to put my mind at rest!

Id get that in writing to, from all the companys' i spoken to NCB's are counted on a Classic Car Policy so i dont see why they would give them

Definately get it in writing.

If I ever deal with them again, I will ask why I didn't get NCB but some other people do as that seems a bit unfair.. :gimme:|
